Ota Benga – TB

1 Jan

A family,
A clan.
He had it all,
This little man.

He befriended a stranger,
Who came from overseas.
He thought he’d made a friend.
He thought he’d come in peace.

A family,
A clan,
He had it all,
This little man.

So onto his boat he tentatively got.
He was promised a better life,
What he lost he never forgot,
He mourned his kids and his wife all the time.

A family,
A clan,
He had it all,
This little man.

In the land of the free,
He was displayed in a cage.
They paid to see
What they thought was a savage.

A family,
A clan,
He had it all,
This little man.

Darwinists argued that to keep him was right.
Ministers argued it was fundamentally wrong.
Ministers were not going to give up the fight.
The little man’s path to freedom was long.

A family,
A clan,
He had it all,
This little man.

And so then he was free,
He learnt to write, he learnt to read.
Though he still longed for the forest
For his home in the East.

A family,
A clan,
He had it all,
This little man.
And it got too much,
Away from everyone
He put a gun to his head

And he was gone.

It was well written and very intense. Made me want to cry, but at the same time to be very thankful for my family. Well written. Have a blessed 2016!
