The jazz clap

21 Dec

I’ve been a fan of jazz for many years but one thing that continues to perplex me is the jazz clap.  You would think that you’d clap a solo, whether it be bass, piano or trumpet.  Regular jazz goers, however tend to frown upon this.  Others clap when there’s a crescendo, whereas some clap in the eye of the storm.  They clap before the high point is reached, the orgasm is achieved and the mountain is conquered.  Then there’s the end bit.  Jazz constantly plays tricks on you.  You think it’s over and you prepare yourself to clap when it craftily continues.

There are very few who have mastered the jazz clap.
